Max blunder: Police to grill entire OT team

Senior Police officers investigating the case of a premature baby who was alive but declared dead by the doctors of the Max Hospital of Shalimar Bagh on December 1,  on Monday said that they are calling the entire Operation Theatre (OT) team for questioning. “We have prepared a questionnaire consisting of general questions directed at the doctors and the staff handling the case. Apart from that, we are working on three factors- one, who looked after the ECG machine at the time of declaring the babies dead, the second factor-  on what parameters were the two injections each worth Rs 35,000 was administered to the mother and thirdly, who handed over the body of the premature babies to the parents," said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest)

Another senior police officer, part of the investigation told the Pioneer, "Three Assistant Commissioner of Police (AcPs) is working on the case. The entire district police are working on maintaining law and order situation in the light of family staging a protest outside the Max hospital.

Apart from these pointers, the investigating team is also seeking expert opinion. "Apart from the medical committee formed by the Indian Medical Council, we are seeking medical opinion on how the doctors at the private hospital were not able to evaluate whether the pre mature was alive or dead before handing it over to the parents.

Following the written complaint by the woman's husband, the Delhi Police registered a case under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC - an offence punishable with imprisonment up to seven years -- against the hospital after family lodged a complaint with police.

The incident was reported on December 1 when one of the twins, (a boy and a girl) born prematurely declared dead by doctors at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, on November 30, was found alive just before his cremation on Friday morning.
