Evan as the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party blamed tampered EVMs for their defeat in Mayoral
elections, candidates of both parties topped the list of
candidates losing their security deposits in elections of chairman of Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchyat and ward members where
ballot paper was used for
voting.
Among 18 political parties contesting the Urban Local Bodies poll on respective
election symbols, BJP
candidates lost deposits in little over 38 per cent posts of chairman and ward
members elections of Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchyat.
Up to 86 per cent
candidates of Opposition parties including BSP, SP and Congress had to face wrath of the voters and they lost security deposits in these polls.
As per State Election Commission (SEC) data, 38.94 BJP candidates lost their deposits in the elections for Chairpersons of Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar
Panchayat while the figure was 73.35 per cent for BSP
candidates, 51.79 per cent for SP candidates and 86.97 per cent for Congress candidates.
Around 81.98 per cent of Independents candidates too lost their deposits.
Small political parties like, CPI(M), CPI, Shiv Sena, LJP, and NCP candidates lost 100 per cent deposits in the
elections for Mayor and Chairpersons of Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchyat.
The BJP fielded 624
candidates for Mayors and Chairpersons elections of which 243 lost their deposits, the BSP fielded 559
candidates and out of these 410 lost their deposits.
The SP fielded 586 candidates of which 300 candidates lost their deposits and Congress fielded 445
candidates of which 387 lost their deposits.
