PM invites newly-elected BJP Mayors to Delhi

| | Lucknow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited all newly-elected BJP Mayors, along with chairpersons of Amethi and Jais Nagar Panchayat, to New Delhi on Tuesday to meet them in person. BJP sources said in Lucknow on Monday that the newly-elected Mayors, along with Amethi Nagar Panchayat chairperson Chandrama Devi and Nagar Panchayat Jais chief Chandrama Prasad, will meet the Prime Minister at his official residence.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also expected to be present along with state BJP president Mahendra  Nath Pandey during Modi’s meeting with the Mayors. However, invitations given to  BJP Amethi and Jais Nagar Panchayat chairpersons assume importance as the party has been able to make inroads in Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency. Amethi comprises Gauriganj and Jais municipal boards and Amethi and Musafirkhana Nagar Panchyats. Congress drew a blank in Urban Local Bodies in Amethi, though party leaders claimed that they have not fielded any candidates and just supported some Independents.

Meanwhile, the BJP has plans to take its Mayors to Gujarat where they will take part in electioneering. The focus will be on Chairpersons of Jais and Amethi  Nagar Panchayats. They will tell people that if Rahul Gandhi could not take care of his constituency, how could his party take care of Gujarat. “The BJP’s victory in UP’s urban local body elections will have an impact on Gujarat polls. A positive atmosphere is building in favour of the BJP and we will sweep Gujarat elections,” BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said. A felicitation programme will be organised for BJP Mayors in Ahmedabad where the CM is likely to

be present.
