Yesterday was Navy Day, an annual date that celebrates the Indian Navy's achievements and sacrifices made by its personnel, and India's sporting icons paid rich tribute to the Men in White through social media. Leading the brigade was Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, who wrote: "Today, join me in saluting both the servicewomen and servicemen of the @indiannavy, as well as their families who sacrifice so much for our safety. #JaiHind."
Vijender Singh
Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh wrote: "On #NavyDay, let's appreciate the efforts of the @indiannavy. They've made our lives easy and safe. A big salute to them!" India boxer Vijender Singh (right) recalled the reason why the day came into being: "#NavyDay was commemorates #OperationTrident that took place during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Indian Navy destroyed the Karachi Port on Dec 4, 1971."
