Surat: A gang of seven attacked four persons on road between Khambhasla and Saniya village on outskirts of the city early on Monday and looted cash and valuables worth Rs 70,500 from the victims. Earlier, a gang had carried out two loots in Sarthana near Pasodara village on Friday last. Police suspect that in both the cases the same gang was involved.
Police registered a case of dacoity against seven persons at Sachin police station. The dacoits have thrown challenge to the city police by attacking four vehicles one after another and keeping Khambhasla to Saniya road blocked for some time.
Gyanendra Ganeshbaksh Singh, a resident of Chalthan village of Surat district, lodged a complaint in this regard. A dyeing master in a textile unit, Singh was going to Althan area of city on Sunday night in his car through Khambhasla-Saniya road stretch when he noticed that an electric pole blocking the road. He noticed that a car jumped over the pole and went through without stopping.
Singh stopped his car and took reverse to take his car from side of the road to avoid damage. His got stuck when some people came from bushes and asked him to come out. They damaged front and side glasses of Singh's car and also thrashed him. They asked Singh to hand over whatever he had. Terrified by the sudden attack Singh handed over Rs 10,000 cash that he had.
Soon a mini truck that came from behind stopped because of the pole on road. The robbers thrashed driver of the tempo Dhanraj Patil and looted cash Rs 7,500 and a mobile phone from him. After a while another goods vehicle was also forced to stop and its driver Avnish Devre was also looted. The robbers looted Rs 50,000 cash from Devre and Rs 3,000 from some labourers with him.
The robbers also looted a motorcycle rider and thrashed him badly. Police are yet to collect details of the valuables looted from the motorcycle rider since he is under treatment at a hospital.
"Police are yet to get any leads in the dacoity. Probe is on to identify the gang. From the modus operandi it seems that the same gang had carried out robberies in some other parts of city," deputy commissioner of police, zone II, Vidhi Chaudhary said.
