GREATER NOIDA: Staff of Sharda Hospital have been accused of medical negligence after a 33-year-old woman, who had suffered injuries in an accident, died during treatment on Sunday.
The family of Kamlesh Devi, a resident of Parsaul village, alleged that no senior doctor examined her and that the hospital staff misled them about her medical condition.
Kamlesh fell off a bike and suffered serious injuries while travelling with a relative at Dhanori village, Dankaur, around 3pm on Saturday. She was bleeding profusely from the ear while being taken to the hospital, where she was admitted around 4pm.
She was apparently diagnosed with a fracture in her head. "She was shifted to the ICU. We repeatedly asked about her situation but the staff would say that she is fine. The ward boys were carrying out the treatment. Dr Ramij, who was on duty, said she would be fine with medicines and that no surgery would be required. He also said he had spoken to a senior surgeon on phone. However, the surgeon never came to examine her," Deepak Kumar, Kamlesh's nephew, told TOI.
Later, around 9am on Sunday, the staff said Kamlesh had expired, he added. "We were misled about her condition. We have already deposited around Rs 60,000 for the daylong treatment," Deepak said.
The family members dialled 100 and teams from nearby Knowledge Park and Ecotech 3 police stations arrived at the hospital. They handed over a written complaint to the cops, accusing the hospital staff of medical negligence, and demanded legal action.
However, the complaint was reportedly addressed to the Ecotech 3 police, while the hospital falls under the jurisdiction of Knowledge Park police station. "We were asked by the cops to hand over a written complaint which we did," Deepak claimed. But, KK Rana, station officer, Ecotech 3, said he had not received any such complaint from the family. Even Hansraj Bhadauriya, station officer, Knowledge Park, denied having received any written complaint.
A spokesperson for the hospital said Dr Ramij, a senior resident, was on duty in the ICU. "She was admitted with an internal injury. Since, she was critical, we shifted her to ICU from the casualty ward soon after her admission. An ENT specialist had examined her," the spokesperson added.
