Monday morning blues were written all around, but the Indian domestic indices forecast to make positive gains tracking cues from global indices and SGX Nifty, skittled out in the noon session.
While the BSE Benchmark Sensex at Closing Bell was up 36.78 points up or 0.11%, a marginal gain, the fifty scrip sensitive Nifty on the NSE made only 5.95 points or 0.06% up at 10127.75
At closing bell, the BSE Sensex stood at 32869.72, while the NSE Nifty read 10127.75.
At one point it appeared that domestic indices would have continued their morning gains, and the Sensex could have ended with a 100 point gain, but quick selling pressure during the noon session, pared all gains for the Sensex.
The leaderboard on the thirty point sensitive Sensex, saw scrips of Infy (up by 2.80%), Hindustan Unilever (1.37%), HDFC Bank (1.25%), Tata Motors (1.06%). The losers were SunPharma (Down by 0.95%), Asian Paints (1.02%), Maruti (1.10%), and Coal India (2.09%).
The Sensex's 0.11% gain was in stark contrast with other broader indices, including Next50, SmallCap, and LargeCap indices, which returned negative gains by end of day. BSE SmallCap 200 returned a 0.79% loss in the session.
Technology indices such as BSE' Teck and BSE' Information Technology posted over 1% intra-day gains. The Teck index was majorly contributed by gains made by Infosys. The news of a new CEO had a positive impact, with the scrip bouncing as high as 3% during intra-day. At the time of close, the scrip rallied 26.80 points or 2.80% to end at Rs 985.30 a share.
Besides Infy, scrips of Biocon, rallied 67 points or 15% to emerge as the top gainer across indices today on the BSE.
