Coimbatore: The first additional district judge court here on Monday extended judicial custody of five Maoists till December 20. The Maoists, Roopesh, his wife Shyna, Anoop Mathew George, Veeramanai and Kannan, were brought from the Coimbatore central prison to be produced before the court.

The Maoists raised slogans demanding to save the fishermen and requested voters to boycott RK Nagar bypoll. All the five were arrested by the rural Q branch police from a bakery at Karumathampatti on the outskirts of the city on May 4, 2015. Four of them were lodged at the Coimbatore central prison and Roopesh was lodged at Thrissur prison in Kerala. The Q branch filed chargesheet before the principal district judge and sessions' court and charges against them are yet to be framed by the court. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu state police registered cases against the Maoists for obtaining SIM cards by providing fake documents.

Roopesh filed a petition alleging that the police are planning to arrest him when he comes out on bail. In his petition, Roopesh said the Thanjavur district police have registered two cases against him for illegally obtaining SIM cards by providing fake documents. So far, he was not arrested in connection with the two cases. He said the police plan to arrest him using these two cases if he comes out on bail. Following the petition, the court has ordered the investigating officer (IO) of the two cases to appear before it on December 7.

Later, all the Maoists were taken back to Coimbatore central prison.
