Italian manufacturer of luxury vehicles Lamborghini is going to announce the world premiere of its much awaited SUV Lamborghini Urus on 4 December, 2017 in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
The automaker has termed Lamborghini Urus as its first Super Sports Utility Vehicle (SSUV), and is a tribute to LM002 - the first Lamborghini branded SUV, a forerunner of the luxury SUVs.
Talking about both the vehicles, the company said “Going beyond the limits of off-road vehicles was not impossible with the legendary LM002 and the same will be with Urus.”
The car will be put on the market for the 2018 model year. The name Urus comes from the ancestor of domestic cattle.
It will be based on the same platform as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg.
Lamborghini Urus was unveiled as a concept car at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. The SUV will come equipped with an all new 4L twin-turbo V8 engine producing 650hp of peak output. The company is also planning to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV.
To make the vehicle light-weight, the luxury carmaker has employed extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer.
The 4-seater Urus, with all wheel drive, will have a top speed of 328 km/h.
In September 2013, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that the company plans to build 1000 units in Urus’ first year of production i.e., 2018, and 3500 in 2019.
