Brussels sprouts CRISIS 'unfounded' with farmers confident of Christmas supplies
THE UK’s mild summer and late start to autumn has ensured Christmas tables should groan under an abundance of Brussels sprouts.

Last month it was widely reported that Britain was facing a sprout “crisis” due to a shortage of seasonal workers.
The news had millions of people who dislike the small green vegetables celebrating.
However, growers have managed to stave off any shortage and are confident supplies will be plentiful.
Martin Tate, of sprouts grower Lincolnshire Field Products, said: "If we had a blueprint for the perfect growing season, this summer would fit the bill.

Growers have also faced fewer problems with pests such as diamondback moths, which damaged sprout crops last year.
Jack Ward, head of the British Growers Association, told The Grocer trade journal that the recent cold snap has curbed growth and ensured better sprout quality.

Supplies of other festive food favourites are also looking good. Potato production is high following a four per cent increase in planted areas.
There is likely to be a surplus of carrots and parsnips.
Angela Huckle, a horticulture research consultant, said: "It is certainly a competitive market with retailers competing for market share keeping prices low."
