UK weather: FOG LINGERS as British cold snap BRIEFLY HALTED by double digit temperatures

FOG will linger as the British cold snap is briefly halted by double-digit temperatures on Monday, the Met Office has revealed.

Commuters should travel carefully during the morning rush hour as visibility could be an issue.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “Any mist and fog will be pretty slow to clear on Monday morning.

“But for many its going to be a generally dry day, yes there will be a few outbreaks of rain and drizzle around.

“Towards Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland we will see some showers feeding their way in, but for many of us it will be a lot of dry and at times bright weather to be had.

“Temperatures are likely to be similar to Sunday really for many of us, generally getting into the high single figures and then towards the west we could just about get into double digits.”

Monday evening will be considerably warmer thanks to increased cloud that limits the chances of frost on Tuesday.

Mr Burkill added: “As we look towards the rest of Monday then and it is going to stay mostly dry for many of us, still a few outbreaks of rain as we go through Monday night, but these will be fairly few and far between, most of us it will stay dry.

“Perhaps a little bit more cloud than last night, as a result temperatures not falling quite as low.

“Generally staying a few degrees above average for the time of the year.

“So Tuesday will get off to a bit of a milder start but otherwise it’s looking like a fairly similar day to Monday for many of us.

“There will be some bright and sunny weather at times but also areas of cloud that will come and go and the odd spot of rain too.

“However across the far north of Scotland, here it is going to be quite wet at times, and the winds are going to strengthen as well.

“Temperature wise it is looking fairly similar to Monday again, temperatures are around about or a touch above normal for the time of year.”

As the week continues Britons are set to be plagued by increased rain before temperatures take another plunge by the weekend.

Mr Burkill went on: “A quick look for Wednesday and after something of a dryer start, it is going to turn a little bit more unsettled.

“We have got an area of low pressure pushing its way in, and that is going to bring a series of fronts with it.

“As a result as we head through the middle part of the week we are likely to see some wet and windy weather for most parts of the UK.

“However this shouldn’t last particularly long, temperatures are set to drop by the end of the week and so we are likely to see something a little bit more wintery by the weekend.”

Despite the increased fog, Monday morning remains a largely clear affair on roads across the country.
