Bhopal run was organized to build to raise awareness about building a safe environment for women. People of all age groups gathered at Motilal Nehru Stadium from 5 in the morning to take part in the marathon runs in three stages of 5 km, 11 km and 21 km.
The marathon was organized on the theme of clean and healthy Bhopal. Thousands of people took part in the marathon. College students also took part enthusiastically. Public representatives took part in the 5 km half marathon.
After the recent spurt in incidents of crimes against women, the issue of women security was also included. Some participants fell down after they lost balance, but got up and started running again.
Organizing Committee had organized health and organ donation camp at TT Nagar Stadium to motivate the participants about organ donation. Mayor Alok Sharma, Arunsehwar Singh Deo.Alok Sanjar and senior police officials ran in the track suits.
The large number of youths and women were the special attraction of the marathon. The organizers said through the run they motivated the people to make running part of their daily life so that they may stay healthy and fit.
The winners received awards worth Rs 4.5 lakh. Amita Chand, president, Bhopal Runners said that the people have started to realize the value of running. “The people took part in large numbers. They have become aware about their health and city’s cleanliness,” she said.
