NH-139 between Aurangabad and Patna may open by March

AURANGABAD: Travel time between Patna and Aurangabad is expected to be reduced by at least one hour in a few months as the construction work of national highway (NH) 139 is almost completed except for some minor work and a road overbridge (ROB).

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sources said once all the related works are completed, travellers will bypass the congested Paliganj and Dulhin Bazaar towns and some bad patches on Patna-Aurangabad road. "This route will be around 20km less and reduce the travel time by almost an hour," said the NHAI source. At present, the distance between Patna and Aurangabad is around 175km, which will come down to around 154km once the two-lane NH-139 gets ready.

The NHAI is yet to get permission from commissioner of railway safety (CRS) for building Shankarpur ROB and a proposal for this has already been placed through divisional railway manager of Mughalsarai. "The approach road is ready and the moment we get the CRS permission, the work on ROB will start. We hope to complete the ROB by March 2018," said NHAI assistant engineer Sanjay Sharma on Monday.

Sharma said construction work on small bridges on the Mahabalipur-Bikram road is under way. "Towns like Paliganj and Dulhin Bazaar will not be on this route. This will make it easier to reach Patna," he added.
