Carr hints at longer Wasps stay

Cape Town - Wasps No 8 Nizaam Carr has hinted that he is willing to consider signing a full-time contract with the Premiership side next year.

Carr joined the Coventry-based club on a three-month deal from the Stormers last month and has made a big impact since his arrival.

The Springbok is set to return to the Stormers for Super Rugby, but is warming to the idea of returning to Wasps afterwards.

“The situation is I have got a contract with the Stormers for six months," Carr told the Telegraph website.

"But after the second week I loved it down here. My wife only joined me yesterday. She’s only been here one day and she’s already liking it - except for the weather.”

“I’m really enjoying it and I’m looking forward to this part of my journey and what’s going to happen after that six months (with the Stormers).”

Carr was in fine form for Wasps in Saturday's 32-25 victory over Leicester Tigers at the Ricoh Arena and was named man of the match after scoring his third try in his fourth match for his new club.

“I must say the Premiership is extremely physical," he added.

"You’ve got a lot of boys running straight at you, whereas in Super Rugby they might put a pass in or someone will step and you’ve got those options to defend against.

“I enjoy the physical part of the game too. I’m not a guy who will shy away from the physicality, I like getting stuck in.”

The 26-year-old is part of a four-man Springbok contingent at Wasps alongside veteran utility forward Ashley Johnson, centre Juan de Jongh and utility back Willie le Roux.

Despite being in the company of those familiar faces, Carr admits that he is still acclimatising to the English winter.

“I’m wearing three or four layers of underskins underneath my jersey in training," he said.

"Yesterday morning it was -2 degrees Celsius in Coventry and I’m not used to that. In South Africa the lowest it will get is 10 degrees Celsius.”
