Bourses open on downbeat note

Trading on the country's two bourses - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - is underway with downward trends of share price indices on Monday.

After first one hour of the day's trading, the benchmark index of the DSE shed 12.71 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 18.74 points.

DSEX, the Broad Index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 6.09 points or 0.09 percent to stand at 6,283 at 11:50 am.

But the two other indices also edged higher.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 4.35 points or 0.31 percent to stand at 1,387 points.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 0.19 points to stand at 2,274.

Trade deals stood at 43,974 shares to stand at Tk 2,229.91 million on the DSE, riding on Grameenphone and Golden Harvest Agro Industries.

Of the issues traded, 129 advanced, 120 declined and 56 remained unchanged.

Grameenphone Ltd topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk 186.07million having changed hands.

Following the suit, the port city bourse - Chittagong Stocks Exchange (CSE) - also witnessed negative trend in early hours with its Selective Category Index losing 18.74 points to stand at 11,769 points at 11:56 am.

Out of the issues traded, 71 gained, 66 declined and 19 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 89 million.
