Giant African diamond 'to benefit poor'

The Sierra Leone government says Monday's New York auction of a 709-carat rough 'peace diamond' will benefit its people.

Half of the proceeds from the sale of the diamond will go directly towards bringing clean water, electricity, schools, medical facilities, bridges and roads to the community where the stone was discovered.

It is expected to sell for as much as $50 million.
