GURUGRAM: Chaos prevailed at the Mini Secretariat premises after a venomous snake was spotted at the SDM office on Monday.

The reptile, a Common Krait, was rescued from the ground floor of the building after a 40-minute operation. The 3-feet-long snake was then released into the wild.

Common Krait is considered country's one of the most venomous snakes.

It was a close encounter for over a dozen administrative and police officers including SDM Bharat Bhushan Gogia, who were present at the office at the time.

At around 12.50pm, the snake was spotted entering the SDM's office. The office was immediately vacated and wildlife officials were informed.

The officials told TOI that is the second most dangerous snake in the world. Its bite leads to the complete failure of the nervous system within 5 to 12 minutes. It prefers to live around human habitation and its breeding season has recently been over. It usually ventures out in the night.
