Four persons died and one person was injured in three separate road accidents reported in Dehradun district over the past 24 hours on Sunday.
Two persons including a girl died on Haridwar bypass Road, near old bypass chowki under Nehru Colony Police station area when the two-wheeler they were riding collided with a bus. Both were students of a local private institute where they were pursuing BSc in agriculture. The deceased have been identified as Chinar Basar and Gyati Sumpi, natives of Arunachal Pradesh. Police rushed to the spot after being informed and both the injured persons were taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, said Nehru Colony Police Station officer Rajesh Sah.
In Premnagar, one person died when the bike he was on fell into a roadside drain in Jhajhra area on Sunday early morning.
The Jhajhra police post in-charge who was on patrolling at the time saw a person on a motorbike fall into the roadside drain at around 3 am. The rider was identified as Selaqui area resident Akash Rai, who was taken to a local hospital by the 108 ambulance service.
He was declared brought dead by the doctors. The family members were informed and body has been sent for post-mortem. Akash Rai was operating a meat business.
In another accident, one person died and another was injured when the two-wheelers they were riding hit the sign boards at Saptarishi Chowk, Raiwala on Saturday night. Both the persons were returning to their homes after attending a marriage function in Raiwala.
According to the police, the accident occurred at around 11 pm on Saturday when they were returning home after attending the function. The deceased has been identified as Madhur Tomar, resident of Hanuman Ghat. The injured who has been identified as Nishant Choudhary, resident of Raja Garden, Kankhal, has been referred to higher centre after being provided primary treatment at the local hospital. Saptarishi police post in-charge Gambhir Singh Tomar who also reached the spot after the mishap said that deceased Madhur Tomar had received head injury in the accident which caused death. It must be written here a series of fatal accidents have taken place in this area and rash driving has been the lmain reason behing this. The traffic administration has punished many for rash driving.
Critics opined that increasing road accidents on daily basis are worrying the citizens. Aside from the mechanical snags in the vehicles involved in accidents, faulty road engineering, drivers’ negligence, drunk driving, overloading and rash driving are triggering road accidents. The government should take concrete and stringent measures to put check on road accidents in the state, they added.
