All smiles now, but Theresa May's arrival might change that. EU heavyweights have met ahead of crucial Brexit talks with Britain's Prime Minister Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker and chief negotiatior Michel Barnier have been going over their final plans with key EU lawmakers. Afterwards the Brexit coordinator for the European parliament put the chances of a deal later Monday (December 4) at 50-50. Britain's Prime Minister is is trying to break the Brexit deadlock and move on to crucial trade talks. Her main negotiator David Davis had this to say before boarding for Brussels. (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EXITING THE EUROPEAN UNION DAVID DAVIS, SAYING: "I think it is an important day, the council can always make up their own mind on the 15th, but it's an important day we can take a lot of guidance from the commission and everyone undertsands that the decision to move on to trade talks is vital" Before that happens, the EU wants agreement on three main separation issues: the rights of EU citizens post Brexit, the amount Britain will pay into EU coffers, and what will become of the UK's border with Ireland. That issue of Britiain's only land border with the bloc is the most fraught. Dublin on Sunday (December 3) evening warned there's still a 'way to go' before reaching a deal. Ireland's RTE broadcaster has since reported a draft agreement could commit the UK to 'continued regulatory alignment' between Ireland and Northern Ireland. But a weakened May can't afford to give too much away. A chorus of Brexiteers have been urging her to walk away if the EU wont budge. This is could be the last chance to make progress before a summit of EU leaders next week. Downing Street has said that's their main deadline But Brussels has warned no Brexit negotiations will take place then.
