Kohima, Dec. 4 (EMN): Naga sculptor, Lanu Pongen, has launched a solo exhibition titled ‘Naga Spirit II: Defining self’ at the Essence Art Gallery in Kohima, which will run till December 22.
‘Naga Spirit II: Defining self’ is a collection of sculptures by 44-years old Pongen, who is a Governor’s Gold Medalist. Pongen hails from Mongchen village under Mokochung district.
According to the artist, his art was a form of expression and testimony to his deep commitment to Naga culture and roots. He says the exhibition is a reflection of his mind. Pongen’s work are put up for sale and the price ranges from INR 50,000 to INR 3,00,000.
Mention may be made here that the Essence Art Gallery was inaugurated on December 1 and along with it, the Naga Art Foundation was launched with a view to promote and preserve Naga native culture in areas of fine arts and provide a platform to Naga artists. Essence Art Gallery, co-owned by Pongen and Kelhou Tseikha, is located at New Secretariat Road, near Theja Agency in Kohima.
