Pet Fed: It’s selfie moment for canines on last day

Different breeds of dogs of almost all age groups and sizes, who participated in the Pet Fed 2017, were apparently keen on sniffing around their fellow canine companions in their bid to know each other. Also, children and teenagers were seen catching the moments in their mobile phones and were also taking selfies with the dogs at two-day long Pet Fed organised at NSIC grounds Okhla on the last day on Sunday.

“As our true companion dogs eagerly wait for us all the daylong at home while we are busy in our mundane life activities and work outside, but Pet Fed 2017 is an occasion when canine acquires centre-stage for a day and gets all the due attention,” said a visitor.

Aryan — the owner of 2-year-old Siberian husky Hachiko — said the animal loves moving around.

Sultan, a one-year-old giant dog of American Bull variety, loves to eat pedigree. His owner said about 13,000 rupees per month is spend on his diet which includes chicken, mutton, fish, eggs , cornflakes etc. While, Benton, a five-year-old small sized Beagle owned by Dr Paramjit loves to eat egg and chapatti along with raw vegetables. Moreover, in order to promote dog lovers for participating in the show, the owners of Indian dogs were allowed to have free entry while there were charges for others. Abhideep came with her 6-month-old Indian dog named Bindi , while Buzo was a well built 2-year-old Indian dog which stands nowhere inferior to the alien/foreign breeds.

Delighted with the response from the pet owners of Delhi who participated with their canine companions in quite a large numbers, the organisers are planning to have a debut in Mumbai on 16 and 17 December this year, and also covering other metro cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Banguluru from the next year.

Organised since 2014, Pet Fed had its 4th edition this year with organisers endeavouring to enter the “Limca Book of Records” for the highest gathering of dogs at one place.

Veterinary doctors, NGOs working for animal welfare, dog trainers, and companies selling dog food and clothing camped at the venue catering to all kind of needs of canine for a day.

Alfa 11 services works basically for behavioural correction among the pets especially dogs. It provides training to the dogs and owners in implementing proper management, socialisation, and obedience training. Pam-Posh is an NGO that works in the field of rescuing animals, recently an 8-month-old female German shepherd who was paralyzed due to side-effects of ‘improper vaccination’ was rescued by it from Gorakhpur district in UP.

“Her owners left her in the garbage and she was paralysed. But now she has started recovering,” said the volunteer. While Friendicoes another NGO working for animals claimed to have rescued 100-150 dogs in a year. It works with Government in field of animal birth control, equine adoption, pet adoption etc.
