Vice-President Vankaih Naidu paid floral tributes to the Budhist Monk Bhante Pragyanand who died on November 30 at KGMU after a prolonged illness at Buddha Vihar in Risaldar park on Sunday.
The Buddhist monk was among the seven Bhickshu who gave diksha to Dr B R Ambedka. He died at the age of 90.
Naidu along with Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries went to the Budha Vihar to pay his last respect. He was there for almost 10 minutes.
The Vice-president will stay for a night at Raj Bhawan and on Monday will go to Kanpur.
Bhante Pragyanand ,who came to India from Sri Lanka in 1942, came to limelight when he along with six other Bhikshus gave dhamma diksha to Dr B R Ambedkar on October 14,1956 in Nagpur.
Bhante used to live at Buddha Vihar,in Risaldar Park area of the state capital, where Dr Ambedkar visited twice.
