‘Let’s strive to live in pollution-free environ’

The rate of pollution in water, air and surface has risen to an unbearable extent; and, hence, green technology should be used for controlling the menace and enabling humans to live in a pollution-free world. 

This was viewed by experts at the Pollution Prevention Day observed by the Orissa Environment Society (OES) here on Saturday.

They viewed that pollution level has been so acute that leading a healthy life would be a very difficult affair in coming days. They called upon all concerned to adopt green technology to lessen pollution caused by use of fuel and electricity generation and in treatment of industrial and city wastes.

CET former Chairman Prof B Sitaram Patra presided over the programme where OES vice-president Dr Lala AK Singh delivered the welcome address.

Society secretary Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi spoke on a topic “Pollution prevention-present scenario and future plans” on the occasion. He emphasised on boycotting of consumerism, lessening of use of resources, adoption of new technology and 4R policy, Resource conservation, Reuse, Recycle and Renovation.

Wildlife and Adventurous Tourism expert Sushant Kumar Das stressed that all efforts should be made for keeping tourist sites clean to keep surface pollution-free and attract tourists.

Himalaya Abhiyan members like Amrutendu Baral and Kumari Anpita Mohapatra spoke.

OUAT former Professor Dr Ramesh Chandra Parida was given Dr BC Panda Environment and General Science Award by Dr Surya Narayan Patra, former VC Prof Binayak Rath and Prof Naba Kishore Mahalik. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by science writer Dr Chittaranjan Mishra.
