Externed criminal held for sexually harassing minor

Pune: The Kondhwa police on Sunday night arrested a 21-year-old criminal on record for violating externment order and sexually harassing a 15-year-old girl at a slum in Mohammadwadi.

The criminal had been externed from the district for two years on April 3, 2017. The suspect and the girl, a class IX student, know each as they stay in the same locality.

Sub-inspector Sunil Jagdale on Monday said, "The incident took place around 10.30am on Sunday when the girl was on her way to dispose of household garbage. The suspect stalked her and proposed her, when she turned down his offer, the suspect became angry and misbehaved with her. He spoke to her in an indecent manner and passed lewd comments at her because of which she felt offended."

Jagdale said, "The terrified girl ran home and started crying and told her father about the incident. When the girl's father confronted the suspect, he threatened him. The girl's father, then, decided to lodge an FIR against the criminal."


"After investigations confirmed that the criminal had violated externment orders, we arrested him under section 142 (violating externment order) of the Maharashtra Police Act. More charges were slapped on him on Monday under sections 354 (a) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act," Jagdale said.


Senior inspector Milind Gaikwad said, "Deputy commissioner of police (zone IV) had externed the criminal for his involvement in body offence cases. A team from Undri police chowkey arrested him after the girl's father lodged a complaint against him."


In 2016, 135 criminals were externed, while there were 213 violation cases of externment orders. This year, 268 criminals have been externed, while 293 violations have been reported.
