‘EVMs could be rigged’

Vadodara: Janta Dal (United) Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav expressed apprehensions that the EVMs to be used in Gujarat polls may have been tampered.

Yadav, who was in the city to campaign for Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) leader Chhotu Vasava, said the Uttar Pradesh civic poll results have caused the doubts about EVMs. "In Gujarat polls, people won't tolerate any such foul play people. We will make the sacrifice for saving the democracy," Yadav said.

Earlier in the day, Yadav had came up with the figures which showed that BJP fared well in the mayoral elections where EVMs were used while in nagarpalikas and nagar panchayats where ballot papers were used, BJP lost more seats. "I have never raised doubts about EVMs in the past. But after the UP civic polls, I feel that the EVMs are being rigged," he added.

Yadav said that most tribals in Gujarat are poor and the government that is bragging about development has done nothing for them. "Most tribals live in dilapidated houses in Vadodara and Surat. What has the state government done for them?," he questioned. Yadav added that the people's mood has changed in Gujarat and hence PM Narendra Modi is rattled.

He also congratulated Rahul Gandhi who is set to become the Congress president. "Rahul's critics should know that he could have taken over the party's reins during UPA I and UPA II but he didn't," Yadav said.
