Real Madrid news: Zinedine Zidane faces sack - Carlo Ancelotti set for shock return

REAL MADRID are lining up former manager Carlo Ancelotti to replace Zinedine Zidane, according to reports in Spain.

Real Madrid are having a terrible season and have slumped to fourth place in La Liga, eight points behind leaders Barcelona.

They were held to a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend and pressure is said to be mounting on Zinedine Zidane.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim those upstairs at Real are growing increasingly impatient with the Frenchman.

And former manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly being lined up as a short-term replacement if results fail to pick up.

Ancelotti has been out of work for around two months, having been let go by Bayern Munich in September.

And Don Balon claim he would be a popular replacement for Zidane in the dressing room.

The majority of Real’s squad that played under Ancelotti are still at the club.

And they reportedly have fond memories of the Italian, with whom they won the 2013/14 Champions League title.

When asked about Real’s goalless draw with Bilbao, Zidane said: "I'm not worried, I'm disappointed for the players. They are disappointed.

“My job is to think positively. Playing in this fashion the goals are going to come."

“If we score a goal, we cut the gap [to Barca]. We can play worse, and we have done, but today and against Atletico [another 0-0 draw] we deserved much more than the opponents.

“With goals you have four points more and it's different."
