NEW DELHI: The CBI has filed a case of abetment to suicide against 10 Haryana police officers, including a DCP, two DSPs and three inspectors, in the suicide of assistant subinspector Mahavir Singh of Gurgaon police, who had ended his life by consuming poison in April last year.
The Punjab and Haryana HC had ordered a CBI probe into the matter in September.
Those named by the CBI in its FIR include DCP Traffic Vinod Kaushik, DSPs Satya and Atma Ram, who was an inspector at the time of the suicide, Inspector/SHO Jagdish Prasad, Inspector/SHO Hardip Huda, Inspector SHO/Babu Lal, Moharrar head constable Kulwant, an accountant of Gurugram police, ASI Vikas and his brother Vijay (both reportedly policemen).
Mahavir Singh's widow Chanchal Devi had alleged that the accused cops were pressuring her to enter into a compromise in lieu of money.
She had referred to the suicide note left by her husband in which allegations were levelled against police officials.
According to the petitioner, her husband Mahavir Singh was posted in Gurgaon City police station and had allegedly committed suicide on April 28, 2016.
