1. (a) Uhuru Kenyatta
Uhuru Kenyatta was sworn-in as the President of Republic of Kenya, a month after winning the disputed elections marked by delays and boycott. Several heads of states and tens of thousands of his supporters attended the inauguration at a stadium in Nairobi on 28 November 2017.

2. (b) International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed every year on 3 December to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

3. (c) Salil S Parekh
Salil S Parekh was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Infosys. Parekh joins Infosys from Capgemini, where he was a member of the Group Executive Board.

4. (d) London
India was re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) under Category B at an assembly of the organisation at its headquarters in London. Indian High Commissioner to the UK, YK Sinha represented India at the assembly where India secured the second-highest 144 number of votes from member-countries, just after Germany’s 146.

5. (a) Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh passed the bill of 5 per cent reservation of the Kapu Community in the state. The Kapu Community was added to the Backward Classes (BCs). This will benefit the community in government jobs, educational institutions

Five-time world champion M C Mary Kom has resigned as the national observer for Indian boxing. She revealed that she had taken the decision after having a word with Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who had recently stated that active sportspersons will not be considered for the position.

India on 30 November 2017 was awarded with the Certificate of Commendation for its exemplary enforcement action in its regional and global effort to combat illegal wildlife trade. The award was conferred to the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) by the Secretary General of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) at the 69th Standing Committee meeting of CITES at Geneva, Switzerland.

8. (b) New Delhi
The 7th edition of the three-day ‘Kathakar: International Storytellers Festival’ was inaugurated by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi on 1 December 2017. Kathakar is the only oral storytelling festival in India and is a part of Ghummakkad Narain- the Travelling Literature Festival which was started under the aegis of UNESCO in 2010.

9. (c) Pluto
According to a new NASA study, some of the icy worlds outside our solar system including Pluto may have liquid water oceans beneath their surface. The study, which was published in a journal titled - Icarus, stated that the heat generated by the gravitational pull of moons formed from massive collisions could extend the lifetimes of liquid water oceans beneath the surface of these large icy worlds.

10. (d) China
A team of Paleontologists have announced the discovery of hundreds of fossilised eggs laid by Pterosaurs, a group of extinct winged dinosaurs. The fossils were discovered in the northeastern Chinese region of Hami by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Many among them have been found to be in a quite well-preserved condition.

11. (a) Hassan Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on 3 December 2017 inaugurated the first phase of the Chabahar port on the Gulf of Oman. Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Shipping, represented India at the inauguration ceremony of the Phase 1 of the Shahid Beheshti Port at Chabahar.

12. (c) International Maritime Organisation
India re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation Council during the assembly of the body at its headquarters in London on 1 December 2017. India with 144 votes won the second-highest number of votes, from member countries, closely behind Germany’s 146. Indian High Commissioner to the UK, YK Sinha represented India at the assembly.
