VIJAYAWADA: After completing the LED street lighting programme in all the 110 urban local bodies in AP, the State government has decided to expedite the prestigious gram panchayat LED street lighting programme, which will help the panchayats save substantial energy and money.

LED street lighting scheme in urban local bodies saves `86 crore as a result of saving 133 MU energy.
Against this backdrop, the Panchayath Raj and Rural Development Department is keen on installing around 30 to 35 lakh LED street lights in all the villages in a phased manner.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Nara Lokesh has underscored the need for adopting Run Rate Mechanism, ie, to compare the current status of daily installation of LED streetlights, time-wise, village-wise, electrical pole-wise for improving the performance of installing agencies to scale up the execution of the LED project.

Addressing the officials including Panchayat Raj department Principal Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy, Energy department Principal Secretary Ajay Jain, IT Principal Secretary K Vijayanand and others through teleconference on Sunday, Lokesh directed the officials to erect third wire on a war footing wherever it is required which is essential for fixing up of Centralised Controlling Monitor System(CCMS) and completion of the project.

“LED streetlighting is a flagship programme for social, economic and environmental benefits in the rural areas. I am sure that the villages will attain an entirely new look with new roads and brighter LED lighting,” Lokesh said.

The minister said world-class technologies in Centralized Control Monitoring System (CCMS) should be adopted in rural LED street lighting project on par with the urban street lighting. The programme should be linked with the CM’s Dashboard and Minister’s Dashboard for effective monitoring of the working of LED street lights installed.
