ROUGH CUT (no reporter narration) Doctors at a Dallas hospital where for the first time in the U.S. a woman with a transplanted uterus gave birth said they were honored and humbled by the medical milestone. "My heart goes out to all the women who trusted us in this journey. It was difficult in the beginning and we understand that sometimes you have to go through difficulties to enjoy moments like this," Dr. Giuliano Testa, principal investigator and surgical chief of abdominal transplantation at Baylor University Medical Center, told reporters on Monday. The birth of the healthy baby, whose birth date, sex and weight were not disclosed, was confirmed by a spokesman for the Baylor University Medical Center. The woman who gave birth has asked to remain anonymous, said Craig Civale, spokesman for Baylor and Baylor Scott & White Research Institute. While the birth of a healthy baby by a woman with a transplanted uterus was a medical first in the United States, it follows several childbirths by women with transplanted uteruses at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg in Sweden, said Civale.
