Bengal MSME dept. announces Shankha, Shola hub in the state to promote handicrafts

New Delhi, Dec 4 (KNN) To promote traditional handicrafts and cottage industry, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department (MSME -D) of the Bengal Government will set up craft hub for objects made out of Shells shankha, shola, pith of the shola plant and jewellery box in Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas district.
The site spanning 5 acres of land for the hub has been identified and hub will be inaugurated within the next few months.
The state government regularly organizes fair, marketing events from time to time to encourage the traditional handicrafts industry and the new upcoming hub is also an attempt to uplift the artisans in the state.
Shankh and shola objects are in great demand in the state especially during the Durga Pooja season and jewellery boxes manufactured by artisans in Ashoknagar are demanded not only in the country but also in west Asia but the supply of the crafts is not enough to meet the worldwide demand, the hub is an attempt to ensure proper supply of the crafted products and regular income to the artisans.
