VADODARA: A complaint of assault was registered against four BJP workers, including a former sarpanch, a taluka panchayat member and a gram panchayat member, at Vadodara taluka police station for attacking three minor boys at Laxmipura village on December 1 night.

The complaint was lodged on Saturday midnight after the complainants made a representation before deputy superintendent of police.

Former sarpanch of Laxmipura Kanu Gohil; taluka panchayat member Jagdish Thakkar; gram panchayat member Mahesh Thakor; and Ranjitsinh Gohil have been named by 17-year-old Dilip Vasava for assaulting him and his friends and hurling casteist abuses at them. Vasava told police in his complaint that when he and his friends Maahil Vasava and Vijay Mali were sitting around a bonfire outside their houses in Indiranagar, the four accused reached there to put up BJP flags and distribute election literature materials.

When the three boys asked them to go away, they thrashed them and hurled abuses. When the locals came out of their houses, the four accused left from there. Vasava along with the residents of Indiranagar went to Vadodara taluka police station to register complaint, but local police allegedly refused to lodge an FIR.

The residents then had to go to meet deputy superintendent of police N L Desai in the afternoon who asked the officials at the police station to take their complaint. However, the complainants alleged the officials kept dilly-dallying and did not register the complaint until midnight. A resident of Indiranagar said on Monday, they will be meeting the district collector to submit a memorandum since the cops have not yet made any arrests.
