While addressing the passing-out parade of 947 recruits at the Police Training School in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that militancy cannot be wiped out by killing terrorists alone. Well, if terrorists are not killed, terrorists kill innocent civilians and our security personnel, Chief Minister!
She also advocated a "humane approach" and emphasized the need to understand the real reason behind militancy. Again, if she says that there is need to understand the reason and issues that lead to militancy, does it mean that her father who ruled the State of Jammu and Kashmir had not tried to understand the problem? Does it mean that at this distance of time after she took over as Chief Minister, she has realized the need for understanding the problem? Separatists want a separate Muslim nation. That will be resisted by all Indians. What is there to understand? And what does she mean by "humane approach"? Is it "humane" to surrender Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan or the secessionists? If this is indeed the solution, the problem could have been 'solved' long back. India does not require a remedy worse than disease. Not to be left behind, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has recently made pro-separatist/Pakistan noises. Abdullah wants to keep Pakistan in good humour and Mehbooba Mufti wants to keep militants in good humour. The joke, tragically, is on India.
