19 arrested for clash in Devgadh Baria

VADODARA: Nineteen people were arrested after a combing operation in Devgadh Baria on Saturday in connection with poll related violence in Devgadh Baria assembly constituency on Thursday.

Of the 19 accused arrested, seven are BJP workers while others are from Congress.

After violence broke out at Devgadh Baria on November 30, several complaints of robbery, rioting and assaults were registered against candidates and workers of both parties at Dhanpur, Katwara and Devgadh Baria police stations. A day later, cops also found a gun from a car in BJP candidate Bachu Khabad's convoy.

However, on Saturday, police undertook combing operation in the villages and arrested 19 people whose names had come up in dacoity and Arms Act complaints registered by either sides. The seven BJP workers arrested include Himmatsinh Rathod, Ramesh Paghdi Bamaniya, Ramesh Sabur Bamaniya, Shailesh Lavariya, Shailesh Chauhan, Babusinh Chauhan and Balvant Nayka Baria.


Mukesh Baria, Bharu Nayak, Prakash Nayak, Nilesh Baria, Manga Tadvi, Sabur Tadvi, Pradeep Sangada, Gopsinh Baria, Amra Bhuria, Babu Mohaniya, Narvat Mohaniya and Jatin Mukeshbhai from Congress were also arrested. Police said they had got the accused's custody till Monday and once their custody gets over, they will arrest them for other cases related to poll violence.


While the workers were arrested, no action has been taken against BJP candidate Khabad and Congress candidate Bharat Vakhda.


"The investigation is on, we will take action against them too in coming days," said superintendent of police of Dahod Prem Vir Singh.
