On December 5, Fresenius Kabi is providing an educational grant for an educational symposium and live webinar at the 52nd ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition titled, “Ensuring Safe and Appropriate Use of Parenteral Nutrition Therapy.” The session will offer pharmacists 1.5 CE credits and is planned to meet the needs of pharmacists in hospitals, ambulatory care clinics and home care who are involved with parenteral nutrition.

The ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting is the largest gathering of pharmacists in the world. More than 25,000 pharmacy professionals from 86 countries attend with a focus on improving patient care.

New American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) consensus recommendations related to the appropriate use of parenteral nutrition build on previous guidance documents addressing clinical and safety concerns related to this high-alert and complex therapy. In this session, the faculty will highlight best practices related to the safe and appropriate use of parenteral nutrition and then apply those concepts to clinical case studies that illustrate real-life scenarios. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Examine the current state of malnutrition in hospitalized patients.
  • Identify best practices for the appropriate use and safe delivery of parenteral nutrition.
  • Apply safe and appropriate use of parenteral nutrition in an acutely ill patient.
  • Demonstrate considerations for the safe and appropriate use of long-term parenteral nutrition therapy.
