Chandigarh: The Central Administrative Tribunal has directed the UT administration to keep a reserved post of a driver in the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) vacant in the regular category until it decides on a dispute over it.
The tribunal is hearing a petition in which it has been alleged that an illegal process was adopted in selection of CTU drivers. Rupnagar resident Paramjeet Singh, who belongs to the other backward class category, had claimed in his petition that he applied for the post of a driver, in which 29 seats are reserved. He said in the petition that he was appointed as a bus driver through an outsourcing agency in February 2016 for the post of bus driver (heavy vehicle) and he had been working as one without any complaint as a contractural employee.
He said he also applied for the regular post of driver in pursuance to a newspaper advertisement, after which he cleared the written test and he was communicated about it in June 2016. He said CTU authorities informed him in October 2016 that the result was not yet out, but he found that other candidates had already been issued letters asking them to appear for medical test and join after that.
It was argued that despite Paramjeet had already appeared for the driving test for regular appointment and cleared it, but people who did not meet merit had been called for appointment and medical test. CAT directed CTU to resolve the matter and keep a post in regular appointment vacant until the case was not decided.
