Under the series ‘Poonam’ of Indian classical Music, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organized the 36th performance on Saturday. In this programme, noted classical dancer Marami Medhi presented Kathak dance at open-air stage situated at lake side of Manav Sangrahalaya.
On Saturday, there was full moon night of Poonam, when the eminent Kathak dancer Marmi Medhi preformed her dance by Shiva Stuti followed by a recital of ‘Kahna Bina Soon Lage Re Nagariya’ in thumri. Her graceful performance ended with a Bhajan in Haveli Sangeet – birnging to light Krishna’s leelas with lyrics Rang-rangeelo, chail-chabeelo, raseelo-raseelo Nandlal.
The rhythm of her ‘Ghungroos’ and the expression on her face-depicting the joy, pain and longing– mesmerized the audience. Medhi was accompanied by Rajeev Shukla on table, Vinod Mishra on sarangi, Naveen Mishra on sitar. Vocalist. Kamal Kant recited the todas, tukdas and sang tahe bhajans along with accompanying her on Harmonium.
In the beginning of the programme, Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri (Director, IGRMS) welcomed Marmi Mathii by giving a bunch of flowers and memento of the museum.
