More parents hiring home tutors for kids

PATNA: With parents becoming more conscious towards the education of their children, home tutors are laughing all the way to the bank.

Anjali Kumar is one of the many parents who hire private tutors to help their children excel in academics. "I pay Rs 4,000 per month, which is almost double the fee one has to spend for a child's classroom coaching. However, I don't regret paying the money as the tutor is good and helps my child focus on his studies attentively," said Kumar, whose son is a student of a primary school.

Since the income is good, many young people have made it their profession. The city has of late seen a mushroom growth of agencies where young people register themselves. In turn, these agencies provide home tutors to the needy.

Ravi Kant, who runs such an agency on Bailey Road, said, "The demand for home tutors ups during the period from July to March. We select teachers on the basis of their knowledge about the subject concerned and communication skills."

These agencies as well as individual home tutors also promote themselves through SMS broadcasts. "Good teachers earn up to Rs 20,000 every month," said Arijit Kumar, who runs a home tuition agency in Ramnagri locality in Ashiana Nagar.

The tuition fee is decided on the basis of criteria like the student's class, duration of the tuition and the number of days the students has to be coached per month. "For primary and middle school students, the fee is around Rs 2,000 per month for three to four classes a week and Rs 4,000 per month for two to three classes a week," home tutor Rajesh Tiwari told this reporter.
