CM, government discuss higher education issues

PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar along with senior officials of the state government had detailed discussion with governor-cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik on Monday on various issues related to higher education in the state.

Malik apprised the CM with the important decisions taken at a meeting with the vice-chancellors held at Raj Bhavan on November 25 and sought state government cooperation in their implementation for revamping the higher education system in the state.

It was decided in the meeting with the VCs that all the universities would frame their academic and examination calendars latest by March-end and regularize their academic sessions as soon as possible. The universities were also asked to ensure implementation of biometric attendance for their teachers, research scholars and non-teaching staff. The syllabi of different courses in different universities, which have not been revised for the last several years, would be updated and revised latest by March 2018.


The chancellor had asked the VCs to take necessary steps for improving the quality of research, timely payment of retirement benefits to university teachers and staff, strengthening of grievance redressal cells, enforcement of financial discipline, getting colleges and universities accreditated by NAAC and promotion of sports and cultural activities in universities. The VCs were also asked not to grant affiliation to the colleges which lacked common room with attached toilets for girl students.


The CM is reported to have appreciated the decisions and assured of government's full cooperation in their implementation.


Chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, education department principal secretary R K Mahajan, principal secretary to governor Brijesh Mehrotra and CM's principal secretary Chanchal Kumar also participated in the deliberations.
