Massive corruption in OCSC alleged

| | BHUBANESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Civil Supplies Corporation (OCSC), which is set up to serve the poor segments of society and farmers, has, of late allegedly become a hotbed of corruption by some unscrupulous officers and has failed miserably to cater to the needs of the people and cause of farmers.

Sources said OCSC Managing Director Niranjan Nayak, who has been posted in the corporation for more than three years, is alleged to have carried out several irregularities in nexus with millers. This has cost the State exchequer crores of rupees. Even the tendering system is alleged to be fixed and contracts are awarded to firms and persons violating the terms. MD Nayak, who is also in-charge MD of the Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC), is allegedly transferring field staffs without following the Government circular.

It is further alleged that Nayak has favoured a Handling and Transport contractor, Jasoda Raoadlines, which has allegedly violated Government tendering terms and conditions. The contractor instead of being blacklisted has been awarded contracts for 10 to 11 warehouses under the OSWC. And the MD is claiming that he has extended the period of payment though he has no power for it. Question is why he has shown favour to the contractor.

Surprisingly, despite many allegations and complaints, Nayak is still continuing in these two corporations for more than three years. Besides, he is taking decisions at his own level without informing the higher authorities.
