The Indian bowling attack was rewarded for its perseverance on a lifeless track as the hosts reduced Sri Lanka to 356 for 9 after defiant hundreds from Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal in the final Test in New Delhi today.
The tourists ended the third day’s play of the third Test 180 runs behind.
Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets while Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja bagged two each.
Sri Lanka on their part would be happy to have saved the follow-on. Mathews hit 111 to score his eighth Test hundred and skipper Chandimal remained unbeaten on 147.
