Leicester star Marc Albrighton deserves England call-up - Demarai Gray

DEMARAI GRAY believes Leicester team-mate Marc Albrighton could win an England call-up.

Marc Albrighton should be called up to the England squad says Demarai Gray

Gray was the matchwinner for Claude Puel’s side after scoring the seventh-minute goal here. But he was quick to recognise the contribution of Albrighton after the 28-year-old turned in a superb display as part of a fluid attacking trio with Gray and Riyad Mahrez behind Jamie Vardy.

“Marc was different class,” said Gray. “You know what you’re going to get from him every week but especially on Saturday. He was good on the ball, creative and he did us proud – he didn’t stop running. That’s what he brings and he did very well.”

Asked if Albrighton was good enough to play for England, Three Lions Under-21s winger Gray – who has been touted for a full call-up himself – said: “Yes, he’s a reliable player and it’s important for the manager to have reliable players in the team.

“We’ve seen from England call-ups, if you’re playing regular football at a good consistent level, anyone can get called up, no matter what club you’re at.

Gray went through the pain barrier to score, hurting his knee colliding with the goalpost after keeper Nick Pope spilled Mahrez’s cross into his path.

“I put my body on the line – I knew I was going to go flying into the post but you take that any day to score,” he said.

Puel believes Gray, who also hit the post, has got the lot. “I think he is the complete player,” he said. “He can play on the right, on the left, like a striker.”

Burnley lost Robbie Brady after half an hour to knee ligament damage after a block tackle from Harry Maguire.

“If it is bad he would be a massive loss because he has been outstanding recently,” said left-back Stephen Ward.

The Clarets are seventh after four wins in six but Ward insists survival is still the priority before they can consider a challenge for Europe.

“It’s great to see us where we are but let’s get to 40 points then we’ll set ourselves a new goal,” he said.
