NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took a swipe at Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, claiming that his "fear of losing the election" was making him unleash violence.
(Gujarat Police yesterday attacked our Rajkot candidates Indranil Rajguru, Mitul Donga, and MP Rajeev Satav, who are giving a tough fight to this fear- and corruption-filled 'Shah era'. Violence is a creation of fear. The fear of losing the election is making Rupani-ji depend on 'lathis.')
Interestingly, 'Shah-kaal' could also allude to the similar-sounding 'Shakaal', who was the iconic villain played by actor Kulbhushan Kharbanda in the 1980 Hindi film 'Shaan.'
On Saturday, an argument between Congress and BJP workers over putting up their banners in Gujarat's Rajkot turned violent, leaving Divyanil Rajguru, the brother of Congress's Rajkot (West) candidate Indranil Rajguru, injured. Divyanil was hit on the head, allegedly by a BJP worker.
Following this, several Congress workers, including Indranil, and Mitul Donga, the Congress candidate from Rajkot (East), gathered outside CM Rupani's residence, demanding he come out.
The situation allegedly got out of hand, and the police, called in to control the crowd along with the paramilitary forces, resorted to lathi charge. They also detained Indranil and Donga, along with their supporters.
