Smart NID card distribution begins in Pabna

Pabna: The distribution of Smart National ID card (Smart NID) began in the district from December 1 with much enthusiasm.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda launched the distribution programme at a function in deputy commissioner’s conference room in the city through a video conference.

Deputy Commissioner Rekha Rani Balo chaired the function while Salma Khatun deputy director of local government, ADC (rev) Ruhul Amin, upazila chairman of Pabna sadar Mosarraf Hossain, Pabna press club president Shibajit Nag, Pabna election officer Saiful Islam, press club secretary Akhinoor Islam Remon and others, were, also presented during the opening ceremony.

Election Commission officials said the commission would be able to distribute the Smart NID to 4,25,010 people in Pabna sadar upazila by 17 May 2018. Out of 25,010, around 214450 are male and 21o560 are female.

Election officer Saiful Islam informed that a total of 15 centers are expected to distribute Smart NID cards and 25 officials and volunteers are working from 9am to 5pm everyday.  

The commission initially has planned to distribute the Smart NID cards among 90 million voters by the end of December.

He also said “If someone will face any difficulties or any problem to get his smart card, they will get help from us.”
