GANDHINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress on Sunday, accusing the party of indulging in rigging while electing its party president. “Presidential election is going on in Congress, and the result is fixed,” Modi alleged. “A youngster named Shehzad Poonawala has exposed the rigging that is taking place in the Congress president polls. Shehzad is a senior Congress leader from Maharashtra,” he said, adding that “A fatwa has gone out that Poonawala to be excluded from all WhatsApp groups.”

“I want to tell Poonawala that you are young and have challenged the family, but look at history and you’ll realize that this is how the party had functioned all along. All state committees had voted unanimously to make Saradar Patel India’s first Prime Minister, yet Nehru became the country’s first PM,” said Modi.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the Emergency issue during Indira Gandhi’s time, claiming the country was turned into a jail by her, and newspapers had to clear their stories from the government. Besides, All India Radio couldn’t play Kishore Kumar songs as he had opposed the Emergency that time.

Earlier speaking in Bharuch, Modi had attacked Congress heavyweight Ahmed Patel along with former PMs Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. “Kutch and Bharuch are the two districts where there are maximum Muslims, and these two districts have progressed the fastest,” Modi claimed.

He also took a dig at his detractors for being critical of the Bullet Train, saying his predecessor Manmohan Singh had announced the Bullet Train in 2012, but the terms of the loan were not tenable. He, however, asserted that the NDA government managed to get a loan of `1 lakh crore for free.

“Bullet train will generate employment and training for our youth. Our boys will learn Japanese technology from the institute in Vadodara,” Modi said, adding that cement and iron used for the Bullet train will be from India, and Japan will buy labour, iron, etc., from the Indian market. Later, the PM inaugurated a private hospital in Ahmedabad and addressed another meeting in Rajkot.
