JAIPUR: A 27-year-old youth was arrested by the police on Saturday for allegedly raping a married woman in Adampur village under Kuakhia police station limits in the district. The accused has been identified as Surendra Kumar Dash of the same village, police said.  Although the crime took place on November 25, it was reported to the  police on Friday as the victim’s husband was away from home. According to the FIR filed by the victim with Kuakhia police, Dash allegedly entered the house of the 25-year-old  woman at about 3 am when she was alone and raped her after threatening her with dire consequence and fled the spot.

The victim used to stay alone in her house as her husband works in a private company in Kolkata, the FIR stated, adding that she narrated the incident to her husband over phone soon after the crime. She filed a police complaint on Friday after her husband came home from Kolkata. Police said taking advantage of the victim staying alone, the accused raped her.

“On the basis of the complaint, we registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused today. We conducted medical examination of both the accused and the victim at the district headquarters hospital,” Kuakhia police station in-charge Asish Kumar Sahoo said.
The accused was forwarded to the local court on Saturday and later remanded in  judicial custody after his bail application was rejected, police said.
