Court rejects Munna Yadav’s bail plea

Nagpur: In a setback to Omprakash Munna Yadav's effort to get anticipatory bail, the sessions' court here rejected his plea on Saturday. The State Construction Workers' Welfare Board chairman, which is equivalent to minister of state's post, has been absconding for more than 40 days in connection with an FIR lodged against him, his wife and two sons under Section 307 of IPC at Dhantoli police station.

Munna Yadav's case was listed before district and sessions court judge, according to his counsel Uday Dable. Praful Mohgaonkar and Nishant Singhania were other counsels, who pleaded for Munna.

According to Dable, the appellant would be challenging rejection of his plea at Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court next week.

The police are strongly opposing anticipatory bail pleas of Munna, his corporator wife Lakshmi, brother Bala, and sons — Karan and Arjun — since the beginning by terming them as "known criminals". In an affidavit submitted before the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, the police squarely blamed Munna, and his entire family for brutally attacking Mangal Yadav and kin with sword, iron rods, sticks and bricks and seriously injuring them.

In a series of reports, TOI had been reporting on how the entire family of Munna Yadav, the close aide of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, had been absconding and Nagpur police's failure to arrest him till date, allegedly due to his strong political connections with the BJP top brass.

More than 11 offences were already pending against Munna and his family members in various police stations. But due to political patronage enjoyed by them, he couldn't be arrested till date. Their family is booked under Sections 324, 325, 147, 148 and 149 of IPC, besides Section 307 (attempt to murder), said sources.
