Even as people of Odisha are praying for a speedy recovery of conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia who were recently separated at the AIIMS in New Delhi, one more conjoined twins were born in Nayagarh district on Friday.

A woman gave birth to the twin baby girls, who are joined at stomach at Khalipatana near Sarankul in the district.

The twins, named Ganga and Jamuna, were shifted to the Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for treatment.

According to reports, Sumitra Dutta (22) had been was admitted to a private clinic in Nayagarh in the morning following labour pain. She delivered the conjoined twins at around 8 pm. A big crowd gathered outside the clinic to see the girls.

However, the doctors referred the twins to be admitted to the Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for better treatment as their conditions were not stable.

Now, the State Government has assured to bear the medical expenses of the twins.

“The Government will bear medical expenses of the conjoined twins, whose treatment outside the State will be made if required,” said Health Minister Pratap Jena, who visited the Sishu Bhawan on Saturday to take stock of conditions of the newborns.

The twins’ father Kishore Kumar Dutta has sought Government assistance as in the case of Jaga and Kalia for surgery of his daughters.

Notably, Kandhamal conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia, who were joined at head, were recently separated by a team of doctors at AIIMS following two surgeries. While the condition of Jaga is found better, Kalia is now out of ventilator. The prayers poured in for the wellbeing of the separated twins following two major surgeries.
