PATNA: Police staged a flag march in Phulwarisharif area on Sunday after members of two communities clashed during Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession in the locality on Saturday night.
A named FIR against more than dozen persons has been lodged for their alleged involvement in the clash, which had broken out between two communities after unidentified gunmen fired at the procession taken by one community. The situation took an ugly turn when people from one community set some vehicles, including a car on fire, ransacked some houses and shops. The police had to use tear gas and mild force to bring the situation under control.
Patna zone IG Nayyar Hasnain Khan said raids were going on to arrest those involved in the clash. "We have got the evidence against the miscreants and they have been identified. As of now, they are absconding but police will arrest them within 24 hours," Khan said. Since the Urs will continue at Phulwarisharif till Monday, security has been tightened up in the area, he said.
A police source said 500 constables, eight ASP and DSP rank officers, 12 SHOs, 150 recruits of Bihar Military Police and one anti-riot reserved company of district police have been deployed in the Phulwarisharif area.
An official said the hoodlums had also damaged properties in the two nearby villages after the news of tension in Phulwarisharif spread through social media. "Police are also keeping an eye on the social media activities to check any further flare up," said the official.
