(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) A 35-year-old Emirati man succumbed to injuries he sustained after a car ran over him on a public road at Khuzam district in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim, identified as Ali Ahmed Al Shehi, used to work as a manager of the Dubai Islamic Bank at a branch in the northern emirate.
His brother Mohammed said Ali was walking back to work after performing the Isha prayer at the Brosli mosque opposite his office in the RAK city."My brother could not make it and succumbed to the serious injuries he received in the accident."
He was planning to fly to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah the same day, he added. "My brother leaves behind two sons - aged six and eight. He was expecting a baby in a few days."Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, RAK Police, said the accident took place at 7.15pm.
"Two vehicles rammed into each other at the arterial Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road, but one of the two drivers lost control over the steering wheel due to the impact of the collision and veered off the road."The driver's vehicle skidded towards the road middle island where the victim was crossing to go back to his office after performing prayer at the mosque on the other side of the street, he explained.
"The car first hit one of the trees on the road island, and then ran over the victim who suffered serious injuries and bled excessively."On being alerted of the collision, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site immediately.
"However, the impact was so huge that the victim died shortly later," he said. "The driver of the car, an Arab resident, sustained minor injuries."Brig Humaidi urged all drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations, particularly speeding which "has been blamed on most of the deadly accidents reported in the emirate of late".
